Print Options and Licensing Comments
FAQ'S, or Frequently Asked Questions:
METAL Prints comments:
Currently we only offer the ChromaLuxe aluminum sublimation printing technique for metal prints
We've both been around long enough to see our share of family portraits printed on archival quality paper gradually fade over the decades, and yes newer techniques like the acrylic covered prints look good initially, but having raised four (4) kids, and moved several times and cleaned the house many times - we feel there are major disadvantages with glass- or acrylic-covered framed-prints, including that they tend to be much heavier in weight (making shipping, moving and installation more expensive and challenging) and more fragile
Having several of metal prints for ourselves and seeing how durable the surface is (in special cases ChromaLuxe has versions they say can be mounted outside), as well as how relatively lightweight they are, it makes the aluminum-based metal prints more appealing to us compared to other formats
That said, if there is a specific image (or images) that you are interested in purchasing, but are absolutely against metal prints - please let us know and we will attempt to find an alternative print fulfillment option to meet your preference
Also, we have many somewhat unique or custom sizes shown (since neither of us like to shoehorn images into a small set of "standard sizes"), call it our artistic prerogative...however, since we want you to enjoy any purchases you might make, if a slight re-cropping to achieve an image size or aspect ratio that you prefer - please let us know and we will see what we can offer, but give us some time
Note that we reserve the right to change available Prints, or Print sizes, which might occur for example, if we find an error in the initial Print Size assignments or if the image quality does not meet our expectations at a larger size. If this occurs after an order has been made we will notify you as soon as possible and try to resolve by either a full refund or if a smaller size is acceptable, then a refund of the price difference (we expect this will be rare, so please bear with us if this occurs, thank you)
FINISH Selection comments:
If you order a print, one additional item that needs to be included is the desired sheen or print finish. For example, each print currently can be ordered in Gloss or Semi-Gloss finish. The same price would apply for either sheen. Note that the Gloss finish is highly reflective but some say it appears to provide more depth to the image. Often the Semi-Gloss is reasonable but it comes down to personal preference. Note that a third option is possible - if you prefer a more muted look, we can order a Matte finish, but please contact us first before ordering
About Signatures or Signed prints:
Sylvie and I have different approaches to this....which is fine - her prints will have her artistic signature/logo on the face of the print in the location, as shown on-line in the galleries. My prints will not be signed on the front, but any large Limited Edition prints I will sign and/or have my stylized signature on the back. The (c)DavidCZigan shown on the website images is for copyright purposes and will Not be on the image-side of an actual metal print
FRAMING comments:
The Chromaluxe metal prints standard option (and we recommend) is called a floating frame. These are already attached to the back and are sized smaller and recessed behind the print all around and provides for approximately a one inch (1") offset from the wall or hanging surface, giving a somewhat floating picture appearance
There are other potential options: Edge framing (flush with outside of print), Keyhole blocks, and Aluminum Stand-off pins or blocks). We currently do not have pricing for these other custom framing options for our metal prints - IF that is something you would like to know more about, please let us know and we can provide more details
Corners: the standard metal prints have a relatively crisp or sharp corner that is blended to be somewhat smooth, but care should be taken when handling. If small or very active children will be around the metal prints, an optional larger radiused corners can be created (approximately a 1/4" radius) which would be more noticeable for a smaller print - if this is desired, please let us know in advance of ordering
SHIPPING and Location comments:
Shipping within the US is included in the price listed
USA-orders will have Sales Tax included. Print processing normally be within 4-5 business days, and delivery may take several additional days
International orders will need a separate shipping step in the checkout process
For any prints over 60" in size (in the width dimension), a freight delivery service will be involved, as these are considered too big for standard postal delivery
Shipping Insurance is available - if something is damaged in-transit, you may be asked to hold the print and packaging until a claim has been resolved, please use the Contact page for more information
LIMITED EDITION PRINTS comments:
We each have selected 32 images, offered in one Limited Edition size (which will be the largest print size for that print). Each of the Limited Edition series prints will be capped to 20 total prints made (ever). Each print will include a certificate of authenticity and series-numbering identification, like 3/20, will be included on the backside of the picture. When the Limited Edition run or series of 20 total is sold-out, we will not produce or sell any more at that size (or larger) of a comparable composition. For example if the Limited Edition print is 30" x 60", we may still offer the same image in our other galleries but only at a significantly smaller size. We will not make future minor adjustments or cropping and claim it is a new image- which would defeat the whole concept of a Limited Edition
The admittedly arbitrary limit of 20 is for all prints of any specific image, regardless of the finish style selected. For example, whether someone selects; glossy, semi-gloss (or matte finish) for their print - each order of that Limited Edition image will count towards the 20 maximum total. Not that we reserve the right to produce up to 2 Artist Proofs of the Limited Editions (for our personal collection) and would be marked A/P 1/2 and A/P 2/2 if any are created
If you have questions about how a particular image might look, it will depend not only on the print finish but also where is will be displayed in terms of lighting. Often people have a specific preference in terms of print finish, or want to maintain a particular look in a collection but sometimes certain scenes may be more impactful with a particular finish. We are willing to provide our opinion if you are uncertain before purchasing, feel free to use the Contact page and we will respond as soon as we can, but ultimately you must make the decision. Note that from this perspective, we can not take returns if you do not like the finish selection you selected. In other words, with the exception of shipping damage, (which should be documented with the shipping/delivery agent) all sales are final. We will do our best to help resolve any shipping damage issues, which we expect will be rare
There are Apps or ways to take a digital image and try to "show" what an individual print could look like in your own home/office/wherever location - but as of November 2025, we do not offer that service. If in the future we can easily do that we could update our website...below is an example, or mock-up I created using a stock image of a room and a rough attempt to show one of our pictures...just to give an idea

Stock room image example with one of our prints inserted to illustrate the wall art
Note that below each specific Limited Edition gallery image, the page will be updated over time to reflect increasing price ranges: the initial Limited Edition tranche (when 16-20 prints remain), then increased for when 6-15 remain, with a final increase price when 5 or fewer prints remain. The last few printed images in a Limited Edition series will be approximately 50% higher than the initial prices.
For example:
- Initial Limited Edition (for initial 5 prints; 1/20 - 5/20) price:
- remaining quantity is 6 to 15, or prints; 6/20 - 15/20, price:
- last tranche of prints for final prints; 16/20 - 20/20, price:
- $2000.
- $2400.
- $3000.
Note: all prices subject to change, but for Limited Editions (only) - if there are fewer than 16 remaining, or less than 6, we will update the website so you should see the approximate remaining number, based on the tranche, but it is a "manual" update and not automatic
The intent of this approach is to provide for those people who are interested in a more exclusive option. You can have confidence you will have a rare and unique print compared to normal "open" prints that are not restricted in the number that can be created. Disclaimer: as in many purchases, there is no guarantee of future valuation increase of any print, but our sincere hope is that this art will "appreciate", or become more important over the course of time to you, your family, or whoever views them
This is an experiment for us - if you have thoughts about whether you would prefer an even more exclusive offering of Limited Editions, please let us know -for example, perhaps just ten (10) total for other future Limited Editions?. In our research, we have seen many Limited Edition runs of 50, 100 or 200, but we felt that was more than we wanted to allow - and as we are relatively "unknowns" in the photographic or art community, we will continue to provide more unique options
Digital Image Files
If you are not interested in a metal print, but are interested in getting a print made by a local printer or print-on-demand supplier who offers other styles like acrylic face mounts or canvas wraps, etc., please use the Contact form to let us know what you would like to do and include the contact details for the alternate printer, and we will try to see if we can propose a quote after contacting them. (Note: this might also be another option to consider for people not in the USA)
