About Dave and Sylvie Zigan

Dave and Sylvie each have had photography as a hobby long before digital cameras, but after getting married in France we have progressively expanded our experience.  It's fun for us to compare how we can get different images from the same locations

Dave has been an engineer in the aerospace industry for over 38 years and Sylvie was a Montessori teacher before devoting her time to our four (now grown) children

Our intent is to share the best images that we have had the opportunity to photograph with the following goals:

    • Capture or evoke the emotion of the moment
    • Remind us of the beauty in this universe that we only so briefly have the chance to explore
    • Provide unique and interesting perspectives that may otherwise go unnoticed in our often hectic lives
    • Reinforce that there is so much good about this experience called life and living, and try to improve the happiness or joy of others by providing a few opportunities to just slow down and enjoy

While we acknowledge the conventional wisdom that a full time professional photographer is probably best served by focusing on one specific genre, we have enjoyed  photography by trying new areas and think this has helped us each improve.   We both typically shoot in RAW format and use LightRoom for conversion to JPG files.  Dave almost exclusively uses Canon DLSR's with LightRoom, while Sylvie is more skilled with Canon's newer mirror-less cameras

Some of our images are photographic "panorama stitches" (Dave usually uses a cropped-sensor camera), and LightRoom generally does well, but is not always perfect, especially if it was windy for a landscape scene, with branches in the foreground.  We also occasionally use image stacking to reduce "noise" in the image

Whether one considers our work shared here as "fine art" or museum/art gallery quality is a subjective topic that we would prefer to let you and time decide...if you like it great - mission accomplished

The watermarks shown on this website are for copyright protection.  However, Sylvie likes her signature/logo on the prints, however, for any of my images, the prints will not have the DavidCZigan that is currently showing in the lower right corner.  Note that for Limited Edition prints, I will sign it as part of the certificate of authenticity, but for other smaller sizes if someone really wanted a print with my signature or initials with a flourish on the front, let me know...but I won't hold my breath).   For more detail on the Prints

The Blog section has more details about what led us to creating this website (with the talent of Jack Brauer and WideRangeGalleries.com).  Also we will eventually list a few people who have helped us in various ways expand our photography knowledge and technique

We enjoy sharing what we have seen and experienced, and hope to be able to devote more time "in the field", especially as Dave looks forward to retirement from his currently full-time day job, and more time to devote to photography and checking-off items on the "Bucket list"

We're interested in your thoughts, constructive feedback or suggestions on other interesting places or techniques to explore

Best Regards, Dave and Sylvie
